Q: When is 103 degrees bearable?

A: Never.

Seriously. If not for this lovely, shiny, new LG that we had installed in mid-May (but completely forgot to post until now, oops), there would be much more %*?! involved in this home.

So let’s rewind to May. Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs decided that 2012 was the year where we would finally have air conditioning thanks to a tax refund. After researching a couple units and installation methods, Broken Thumbs was unhappy to hear that he could not DIY install an A/C unit due to regulations regarding freon. This meant that Broken Thumbs & Pointy Shoes would have to shell out more $ for a certified HVAC technician.

Pointy Shoes called around to get a few quotes and decided to use a local company down the street. This company was a dealer for Fujitsu and LG, one of the two units we were considering. Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs ended up choosing the LG for its good looks but price was also a small factor.

One week later, the guys installing our unit arrived at our house 15 minutes early, were very polite, put down plastic everywhere, and cleaned up nicely. Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs were very happy on installation day.

Then one day later… the unit stopped working all of a sudden. Broken Thumbs put his man skills to work and investigated the outdoor portion of the unit. For once, using the Jeremy Clarkson method of hitting everything caused the unit to turn back on. After a few more incidences like this, Pointy Shoes decided that this was unacceptable and called the A/C company for a repair.

The 2nd guy that came out specialized in electronics and replaced the electronics with a beefier version and we haven’t had a problem since. However, he did not replace the caulk that once sealed around the box to the house, insisting it was not necessary.  Very unfortunate, since it left the wall looking ugly.

One more complaint about the A/C company: It took them 1.5 months to fax me a copy of my credit card receipt, which they promised they were mailing to me from day 2 but never received.

Overall, Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs & the fish tank are very happy with the new addition to their house. But really, this heat wave needs to GO AWAY. Life outside the house feels pretty terrible.
