Every year, this well known manufacturer of mid-century accouterments packs in an inordinate amount of people into its ample warehouse. Deal hunters line up from 5:30 am and come from as far as New Mexico to get a piece of the action.
Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs woke up at a leisurely 6:45 am with supplies and reconnaissance in hand. Cash was deemed king for the day so the previous night Pointy Shoes made a late night withdrawal while Broken Thumbs ran a Japanese snack finding mission. Maps were made. Alarms were set. Uniforms were laid out. Pointy Shoes & Broken Thumbs had their game face on, ready to elbow and box out any competition. (bossy Chinese ladies)
Broken Thumbs had always wanted an Eames rocking chair.
However, buying a new licensed reproduction from Design-Out-of-Reach only came in plastic, a far cry from the original fiberglass shell chairs he drooled over.
A licensed reproduction in a new material did not seem true to the original design. In this case, a well made fiberglass knock off seemed the true successor to the Ray & Charles original.
